Tonight is what I have come to call “The Great Big Apple Show”.
There was a time when I was looking forward to that. These days, not so much.
Yet my computer life is buzzing with excitement. LLM tools make it so easy to do stuff on my computers that I have to resist the desire to constantly tinker with everything. What used to be a chore is now just a prompt or two, and everything looks like it can be done.
The most overwhelming feeling is one of renewed control: control over my data, control over my machines. Even the old laptop is now a fun reinstall project. A second-hand Mac mini can become my personal OpenClaw assistant, and next to that the center of my music experience, and a backup destination for my other machines as well.
Those new devices that will be announced tonight won’t have Siri AI here in Europe. But in light of all of this… does it matter?
Who wants to be locking up all their data in Apple’s walled garden, even if it’s enhanced with AI? And who cares if Apple locks it up in their walled garden, if I can point my agent to it and ask it to get all that data out just as easily?
I’ll be checking in tonight to see if that phone is really as foldable as rumours say it’ll be. To see if there are any surprises.
But chances are, I’ll be paying more attention to my running conversations in Codex, Claude and (new this week!) pi.
